Quality of life is more than a real estate buzzword—it’s a promise.

One that includes clean air and water, strong schools, safe communities, cultural depth, access to nature, and economic opportunity for everyone who calls Western North Carolina home.

That’s why Oby Morgan, a third-generation Asheville native and real estate broker with Christie’s International Real Estate – Ivester Jackson Blackstream, established a charitable fund housed at the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. He seeded it personally to make it self-endowed, and adds to it as the business allows—not as a feel-good gesture, but as a real and growing investment in the long-term health and well-being of the region.

The goal is simple but ambitious: to raise the bar for quality of life across all communities in WNC, regardless of income or zip code. As the fund grows, so does its potential to support the people, places, and programs that make Western North Carolina thrive.

The fund is not a line item tied to any single transaction. It is a long-horizon commitment, and every client who works with Oby strengthens the foundation underneath it. It reflects the kind of business we're building—and the kind of future we should all be working toward. Because real estate isn’t just about property. It’s about people, possibility, and place.

It’s safe to assume that many folks have a relatively good quality of life here. However, what makes life good for those who feel that way? What about those who don’t feel that way? What could be done to make it better? After all, a rising tide should raise all ships. We're always interested in perspective on which local nonprofits are doing work that matters in Western North Carolina. If you have one in mind, we'd like to hear about it.
